In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP candidate from the Salempur Lok Sabha constituency, Ravindra Kushawaha, had established a lead of 46716 votes over his nearest SP rival Haribansh Sahai Kushwaha in the Salempur assembly segment which forms part of the aforementioned parliamentary constituency.
